Archive13 aprilOur next workshop is in the final planning stages. The topic is antibiotic resistance with focus on mathematic and stochastic modelling. Interested audience is sincerly welcome. We have several international speakers to be anounced so keep an eye on this page. Participation is free of charge, as always. 11 JanuaryPublication: "Spatial Bridges and the Spread of Chlamydia: The Case of a County in Sweden" by among others Monica K Nordvik and Fredrik Liljeros is now published in Sexually Transmitted Diseases. Spatial bridges are links in a sexual network that connect regions of the network that would otherwise be very distant. By analyzing contact tracing data the authors conclude that halting the spread of clamydia may be very difficult due to these bridges. 14 December, 2006Publication: "The effect of travel restrictions on a moderately contagious disease" by s-gem members Martin Camitz and Fredrik Liljeros is available open access from BMC Medicine. The authors show that banning trips over a certain distance will have significant impact on outbreaks of SARS-like diseases. The pressrelease can be downloaded here. There is also some pages on s-gem's site describing the model intended for the broader audience. 19 September, 2006The workshop on Vaccination strategies and intervention was a most memorable event. Tha talks were very enjoyable and some of the presentations are now available for download. 24 August, 2006S-GEM recently had its 2nd yearly two-day workshop where we discussed plans for the future and welcomed new members. This time sampled the warm hospitality of Mariefreds Värdshus. During the sessions our junior members revealed their projects and recieved plenty of valueable input from the assembly. 20 January, 2006S-GEM-member Lisa Brouwers this day presented her agent made models at Ministry of Health and Social Affairs to a delighted audience. December, 2005The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control is now up and running in Solna and is now a neighbour to the national version, the Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control. Two S-GEM members Johan Giesecke, former state epidemiologist, and Karl Ekdahl have taken up positions at the new facilities, as Chief Scientist and Strategic Advisor to the Director respectively. 7 Nov, 2005Our first ever public workshop on Networks in Epidemiology was a success. S-GEM thanks our speakers, especially Devon Brewer and Jacco Walinga and all the participants. Several presentations are available for download. |
